1885 Street Directory for New Castle, Delaware

Such directories are by subscription, and less wealthy persons, who do not subscribe are underrepresented. Occupations are those provided by the resident, and are known to be in error in some cases. The Dobbinsville and Shawtown areas are included, but not Buttonwood. Some speculation is provided below People are listed both by street and business. There may be multiple people at one location in businesses, boarding houses and private homes (eight Murrays lived at Ninth & Clayton). Whether servants are included or not is not obvious. See below for the 166 occupations listed, including butcher, baker, blacksmith, puddler and twister.
